Health and safety at work legislation is about reducing death, serious injury and ill health in the workplace, including schools. It is about taking the necessary action to reduce significant risks - it is not about banning activities. As it’s Autumn, let's start with the old chestnut that schools are making kids wear special protective gear to play conkers or just banning it all together.
What the HSE say: Realistically the risk from playing conkers is incredibly low and just not worth bothering about. If kids deliberately hit each other over the head with conkers, that's a discipline issue, not health and safety.
