A contractor is anyone who conducts work at an organisation who isn’t an employee. Typical contractor activities include maintenance, repairs etc. Often there is more than one contractor on site and it is important to consider how their work affects each other and how they interact with the activities of the organisation. Unfortunately, contractors are involved in many accidents.
A Visitor Pass identifies and validates every visitor to your site and can also be used to control vehicles or identify temporary staff. The system also provides an accurate up-to-date log of all visitors on your premises in case of emergency. It’s important for organisations to know which contractors are on site, what they are doing, have they been given authority to begin work by an authorised person and are they aware of the dangers in the area where they’ll be working?

A register and ID pass system centrally reports visiting contractors and captures a signed declaration that any relevant HSE information has been read and understood. The registration log provides an accurate record of time onsite, the affected building area and the type of work being conducted.
If this is a high risk activity, the HSE recommend using a Permit to Work.

Highlights high-risk activities
A Permit to Work system is a formal recorded process used to control work which is identified as potentially hazardous. It is also a means of communication between contractors, site / installation management and plant operators.
Each permit is divided into sections covering the job details, a risk assessment of the work involved and a declaration signed by both parties to confirm that all health & safety risks have been considered and any necessary precautions put in place.
A one-write duplicate system creates triplicate copies for the contractor, employer and central records.
SG World can design a bespoke permit or customers can choose from a range of off-the-shelf permits for a variety of tasks, including the HSE five high risk activities.
