Industry News » School Incident Reporting - Over 70,000 Children a Day Suffer Injuries Whilst at School

04-03-2009

Every incident results in the school sending a letter to the parent to explain the event.

School Injuries

A survey of school administrators has discovered that around 1% of all school pupils suffer an injury whilst at school each day.

Almost all of the school injuries are minor, mostly cuts and bruises, due to the boisterous nature of pupils in the playground. Over four in every ten schools (41.9%) report that at least one incident led to a dispute between a parent and the school.

With so many schools facing complaints from parents regarding injuries, schools have had to change their approach to incident and accident reporting.

School Incident Reporting

“With 70,000 incident reporting letters going home to parents each day it makes sense for the schools to have a simple incident reporting system system available in duplicate for every school injury or illness,” said Jamie Norman of SG World, the company that provides the systems many schools use for recording injuries on school premises.

Over half (53.7%) the schools surveyed now use an accident reporting system that allows them to record every incident, with a copy being kept in the school file, and a second copy being sent home to the parent.  If a parent queries the incident, the accident report can be easily retrieved.

The number of schools using an incident reporting system is growing daily.

The survey was undertaken by The School of Educational Administration on behalf of SG World.

SG World has worked closely with thousands of schools over the past 10 years to develop a simple and effective school incident reporting system.

The key benefits of our school incident reporting system are:

  • Parents are kept informed of incidents and illnesses that happen to their children
  • A master record and the incident report for the parent is created at the same time, cutting down on extra work preparing letters for parents
  • You have a permanent record of incidents and any first aid given
