Industry News » Fork Lift Truck Inspections - A Call to Arms

20-03-2009

Fork lift truck leaders have urged companies to beware of worn and dangerous forks on their fork lift trucks in a recent article in the Fork Lift Truck Associations Magazine.

The article advises that repairs of fork arms instead of replacement, is putting lives at risk.  Fork lift truck fork arms are a critical component of a fork lift truck that are rigorously tested when designed and are manufactured to ensure that they can handle the demands and stresses a fork lift truck faces in a day-to day operation.  Heavy use or incorrect use can erode the fork's heel which dramatically reduces the carrying capacity of the fork lift.

It is impossible for a repair to bring the fork lift truck back to its original strength and there is a wide range of legislation and guidance relating to their repair.  Specific testing is also required on the fork lift truck and fork arm if a repair is attempted.  Many companies are unaware that this testing requirement even exists.
