Election night success for Manchester City Council
The HSE has confirmed new proposals for 2012

Students from Kings Grove High School are working to support two Crewe schools events in partnership with leading supplier of safeguarding and pupil monitoring solutions, Crewe-based SG World.
The four Year 10 students, Rachel Armstrong, Rebecca Latham, Georgina Costello and April Williams, will be designing wristbands and ID cards which will be produced by SG World and donated for use at the two events: “OlymPicnic”, a picnic at Queen’s Park on 20 June and “OnTrack”, a safety and awareness day at the Crewe Heritage Centre on 27 June.
The pupils visited SG World’s headquarters off of University Way on Monday 23 April. They were given a tour and then met for an open briefing for both the wristbands and the ID cards by Ben Wye of Crewe Partnership. At OnTrack, the Kings Grove ID card designs will be integral to a game designed to teach Year 4s about awareness of strangers. The children will be tasked with checking the ID badges of the adult volunteers, from organisations including British Transport Police, Tesco and Virgin Rail, and ensuring they are valid. Several volunteers will be on-site wearing counterfeit badges, also designed by Kings Grove, for the children to use their observation skills and catch them out.
The students will also determine the best information to include on the wristbands to assist with safeguarding of over 100 Key Stage 1 pupils in Queen’s Park.
Steve Floodgate, SG World Communications Director, said: ‘As a leading supplier of safeguarding and pupil monitoring solutions, we felt this was a natural partnership to make and we were keen to provide local students with a fresh and exciting educational experience. Handling a real project, with a real outcome, from start to finish is a valuable experience for anyone starting out in the workforce, so we’re delighted to expand this opportunity for learning to these four highly motivated students’.
The pupils will present their project and designs back to SG World and Crewe Partnership later in May.
Ben Wye, Early Intervention Coordinator for Crewe Partnership, the co-operative of local schools hosting the events, said: “This is a great example of schools working to help schools, and gaining valuable educational opportunities in the process. These secondary students from Kings Grove High School will be making a huge contribution to the two June events Crewe Partnership is arranging for primary schools in the area.”
The students are part of Kings Grove High School’s Business Ambassador programme. The programme is made up of pupils who are studying the subject and have been put forward either by their teachers or volunteer based on an interest in the subject.
Student Georgina Costello said: ‘I was interested in working on this project with SG World because they’re a successful, local business and being able to see how they work will help me understand more about the business world’.
