Beth Cann wins Apprentice of the Year 2017/18!

Congratulations to Beth Cann, the first winner of SG World’s Apprentice of the Year award!

Beth has been a member of the SG World family since February 2015 and for someone so early in her career, her award and achievements speak volumes. Beth has completed her AAT Level 3 qualification, been hand-picked for a case study with her apprenticeship trainer Total People and even won Employee of the Month in June 2017!

Beth’s job title is Finance Assistant but her awards and achievements – as well as feedback from many of her colleagues across the business – make it clear that her job title doesn’t tell the full story. As well her day-to-day responsibilities of completing expenses tasks, helping to pay suppliers and managing invoices, Beth has assisted with some complex and demanding tasks, such as SG World’s financial audits.

As well as being a talented individual, Beth is well known across the company for her friendly, helpful and positive nature. She is a ‘yes’ woman through and through, always willing to help her colleagues as much as she can, as she understands that doing so ultimately helps to make a difference to her colleagues, our customers and the business as a whole. Her professionalism and enthusiasm does her and the business proud.

Beth was invited to the annual SG World Awards Evening, a glittering event where she was surprised with her Apprentice of the Year award. A very modest but pleased Beth told our roving Employee Awards reporter: “I was really shocked when I was presented with the award! It was really nice to receive it. I won some shopping vouchers which is fantastic and also a very snazzy trophy which is pretty heavy – it would make a very good weight next time I go to the gym!”

Of course, one of the hallmarks of our Apprentice of the Year award winner is that they embody the SG World values of ‘do the right thing’, ‘do it the right way’, ‘be fresh’ and ‘be the best you can be’. We’re sure that anyone would agree that these qualities describe Beth, and for an apprentice to have earned such a great reputation speaks volumes for how well Beth conducts herself.

SG World places a strong emphasis on its internal apprenticeship programme, recognising the importance of nurturing young, fresh talent to help guarantee business success in the future. With apprenticeship placements across various areas of the business – including Production, Finance and Support & Services – apprentices complete nationally recognised qualifications whilst receiving exemplary in-house training to bring their skills to the high standards required by SG World, which helps make a difference to our customers and colleagues.

Mark Haase, SG World CEO, said: “Our Apprentice programme is designed to bring young people into the organisation at a time when they are eager to learn, will enthusiastically take on new challenges, and hopefully give them a long term opportunity to excel in a business environment. From day 1 Beth has demonstrated all this and more, her work ethic and general approach, together with the fact she lives the SG World values every day, make her a worthy winner and a great role model for any prospective apprentice.”

Congratulations Beth – you really deserve it!
