FFI – what do people want?

With the FFI appeal process due for an overhaul, Health and Safety at Work magazine tested the water with a Twitter Poll asking for opinions on what the HSE should do with FFI. SurveyPostBox FFI | SG World Crewe

Since its introduction FFI has had its share of detractors so it’s probably no surprise that only 14% of respondents agreed that the scheme should stay as it is. The most popular opinion was to scrap the scheme completely with 38% of the vote. Circa 29% of the vote wanted the level of the trigger to be increased. FFI currently comes into play with a notice of contravention, this threshold could be increased to improvement and enforcement notices. Lowering the hourly rate from £129 attracted 19% of the vote, some voices in the industry see the fee as a “stealth tax”.
