Scaffolding work is an integral part of construction projects, 65% of construction workers frequently work on scaffolds. Safety inspections play a key role in managing the inherent risks of scaffolding work. The scaffolding inspection pad helps businesses perform their safety inspections. The checklist is designed to help you comply with your duty of care under the Work at Height 2005 regs. The duplicate checklist design creates two signed copies of each inspection and incorporates a PASS/FAIL notice. Each pad has 30 checklists and is used in tandem with a hi-vis display wallet

How to use

The competent person can simply work down the inspection checklist, checking the safety of each component in turn. Once the inspection is complete, assuming safety has been established, the green PASS inspection certificate can be placed inside a safety status indicator on the scaffold ensuring that everyone can clearly see that the scaffolding is safe for use. Failing scaffolds can be similarly identified by a red FAIL certificate and reported for maintenance. The duplicate copy of the certificate remains inside the inspection pad and can be used as evidence of inspections should you ever need to produce this for the HSE or other official parties.

FAQs

When should a scaffold be inspected?

A scaffold used for construction should be inspected before it is used for the first time and then every 7 days, until it is removed. It should also be inspected each time it is exposed to conditions likely to cause deterioration eg following adverse weather conditions or following substantial alteration.

Must I use a tag system for a scaffold inspection?

Although tag systems are not a legal requirement, the HSE recommend it as a useful way of supplementing inspection reports and ensuring those who need to access the scaffold know that it has been inspected and is safe to use. The law requires inspection of scaffolding from which a person might fall 2 metres or more and the issue of a report by a competent person, on completion and at least weekly thereafter.
